Theban Magical Runes (Part 2)

(It's highly recommended that you read the previous post on this topic before proceeding.)

Okay, in my last post about the Theban alphabet, I introduced the idea that they could be used as a set of magical runes which could be used for any conceivable spell, talisman and enchantment one could think of. I gave the first Eight of the twenty-four rune-names, which symbolized energy in its roughest and most primal states, here I'll be presenting the second Eight, which is the aforementioned energy becoming more stable and further varieties of expression are explored.

Isis represents constant but gradual change, which also leads to individuation. It is the result of Besz cultivating what it has set aside. It is a much refined version of Apof, which has undergone so many changes, and also the energy released in the blissful unions made by Gildam. It symbolizes the renewed strength one feels when one has seen results from their labors. It is energy defining and sustaining itself with the results it provides. This is where things begin to take a life of their own and snowballing into something else. This is where one begins to stand out from the rest, the monad being derived from the source.
It is under the influence of the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, Saturn and Sagittarius. It represents profits being used to generate more profits. It’s associated with the process of involution, where monads of energy are budded off from the Universal Source and become self-sustaining systems. It will be useful for the creation of independent entities.

Khufu symbolizes expanding one’s boundaries and limits by assimilating or subsuming the objects, people or systems around you. It’s similar to Besz in that it is engaged in the act of gathering, but it doesn’t gather raw energy, it brings together established systems of energy. It brings the fledgling monads issuing from Isis together under a hierarchal structure, and creates mutual empowerment for all those involved.
It is associated with the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, Jupiter and Capricorn. It is associated with making pyramid-structures, empires, conglomerates and harnesses for the greater good the immense power of the many against the few. It will be useful in leadership/charisma enhancing workings and those related to governance.

Laguz is the rune symbolizing the stream of Life, gentle, fluid, but undeniably powerful, at times, could also be terrifying in what it could do. It is when the gathered power in Besz and Khufu are roused into action with a specific purpose in mind, and executed with utmost control and serenity. Vast, uncountable multitudes of people are often likened to seas, rivers and other bodies of water. Laguz represents what that multitude could do if they all aligned their will for a single cause. Rivers and streams tend to find other ways and means to remain flowing, characteristic of life’s ability to adapt through trial and error. This is different from Fosfo in that Laguz tries it one at a time, instead of all at once, in order to conserve energy.
It is under the influence of the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, Mars and Aquarius. It will be especially useful for healing works and to develop higher faculties of learning.

Minas represents reflexive and spontaneous reactions to outside influences and stimuli, being in tune with the environment to such an extent that it approaches precognition. It is both being aware of the environment and acting naturally towards it. It also symbolizes our instincts developed by millions of years of evolution and the “small voice” that we have to learn to listen to from time to time. It is from Minas that Ceru and Laguz receives the cue to act. It’s similar to Gildam in that the bond it creates causes growth, but Minas deals with the bigger picture, and not just a single aspect of it.
It is under the influence of the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, the Sun and Pisces. It is associated with the senses and the natural reactions derived from them. It will be very useful in the development of psychic ability, foresight and for working to develop relationships within and between communities, nations and races.

Nina symbolizes being in a state of dependence to another person/system or one’s immediate surroundings. It is the time when your strength is defined by those around you. Power is derived from the outside, from the environment, from outside factors where one has no control over. Nina proceeds from Minas if it doesn’t lead to action, but only lets the affect them and pass them by, when the forces within Khufu are not rallied up and simply left to sit. Such behavior is beneficial when the environs are conducive to growth or if the system being clung to is stable, and if the dependent state is only temporary. Otherwise it will eventually lead to either destructive parasitism or being absolutely helpless to the person, system or environment being dependent upon, causing the ease and variation of expression to be minimized.
It is associated with the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, Venus and Pisces. Will be useful for stating one’s needs to the universe or for bindings and curses.

Osmos is the rune of metamorphosis. It symbolizes reform in all levels of existence in a final attempt at self preservation, or else withers entirely constricted entirely by the noose of Need (Nina). It’s similar to Fosfo and Laguz in that it changes in order to adapt, but differs from them in that it takes all possible courses of action, combines it all in such a unique and unprecedented way that it solves the problem quickly, all of it in one fell swoop.
It is under the influence of the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, Mercury and Aquarius. It is associated with lateral thinking, creativity, new and unique ideas and weirdness. It will be useful for causing beneficial change in a situation and to change a person’s personality, or to simply make one’s day more exciting.

Pertho represents introspection and exploring one’s own mind, powers, emotions, etc. It is the internal journey into oneself and making sense of what one finds there. It relates to the interpretation of dreams, mannerisms and other unconscious phenomena. The process could be likened to spring cleaning and clearing the clutter within your brain, increased productivity, clearer thinking and general well-being achieved as a result. It is Khufu, but inward instead of outward, and helps in harnessing the locked-in powers of Erus.
It is under the influence of the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, the Moon and Capricorn. It is associated with the unconscious, and the things we do to communicate and understand it. It will be helpful in the workings of personal transmutation and dreams.

Quas is the rune of strength and stability against the harmful influences from the outside. It comes as a result when Pertho has succeeded in creating internal consistency, when it has “made deep, stable roots” within the person or system. It differs from Fosfo, Laguz and Minas in its method of coping with change in that it meets the obstacle head-on, and eventually reversing what little change and compromise it makes in order to get through the struggle. Similar to the sturdy tree, it bends, but does not break and yield to the winds, and will be proudly standing upright once more once the storm passes.

It is under the influence of the Lover, alchemical Sulfur, the Earth and Sagittarius. Its symbolism makes it very useful for defensive spells and shielding, though one needs to have a decent amount of training beforehand.

There we go, the second Eight. Please stay updated for the next installment in this series about the Theban Magical Alphabet.
